About Weeksville
Weeksville Heritage Center (WHC) is a historic site and cultural center in Central Brooklyn that uses education, arts and a social justice lens to preserve, document and inspire engagement with the history of Weeksville, one of the largest free Black communities in pre-Civil War America. For over fifty years, WHC has proudly served as an education space, using its tactile connection to African-American history to educate, enrich and inspire visitors; and as a community hub, extending the founders’ vision as a physical and virtual convening space for the local Black community.
The Spring Benefit will provide a new source of support for the organization, and funds raised will be invested in our mission to serve our community through increased and accessible programming as well as care for the historic Hunterfly Road Houses, celebrating all aspects of freedom and its promise.
